This lovely little felt bird sculpture is the result of my messing about yesterday.  I’m attempting to create a pattern for this but it’s not that easy so this is purely a ‘blog ready’ piece and if you look very closely at it you might notice the flap of felt hanging down where I had to join another bit on for the tail.  There is also the absolutely appalling stitching.  I only mention it in case you think that I think it’s acceptable to have the thread joins showing…I don’t.

I think he’s kind of cute and I especially love the green felt for his chest.  More to follow and a pattern when I figure it all out properly.

bird_sideThe eyes are in the wrong place too, right?

Later that day…

I’ve cracked it.  I’m so happy today…really it doesn’t take much!

  1. Oh, they are so adorable!

Do you have a pattern for these beautiful birds that you would be willing to share? x

  3. Alasdair says:

    Hi Hayley,

Thanks for your kind comment :)

We did consider sharing the pattern, maybe offering the pattern or perhaps kits to make your own for sale. In the end though we decided to protect the originality of the design since we are offering the finished item for resale … unfortunately even if patterns are explicitly copyrighted against reproduction for resale there are unscrupulous people who may use it wihtout permission.

We may offer an alternative pattern in the future, possibly the prototype to the bird featured here. Things are a bit hectic in the run up to christmas just now though it probably won’t be for a while.

Perfectly understandable. I finally saw the link to the Etsy site. Oddly enough, I had been there before looking at the wood figures which are also lovely. Now I’m just gonna have to save some money up to get both these. The finch there has wire legs. Will you be selling the one with embroidered legs as well?

  5. Jolene says:

    Hi Baye,

The hanging finches with embroidered legs will be added to the shop post Christmas Craft Fair craziness. I’ve left you a comment on the other post though. Try adding a leaf shape to the Scandinavian Bird (on the Free Stuff page) tummy for a 3D hanging bird.

    Hope this helps a bit.
