This is not my usual style at all, in fact I can fairly safely say that I’ve not attempted to paint or draw in this style since I was about 12!  Even so I’ve had the inspiration for this in my art journal for longer than I care to remember now and it was something I felt the need to exorcise … the inspiration is a birthday card with a simplistic cartoon dinosaur on it, that however is pretty much where the resemblance ends as I embellished it and played around with different ideas.

In essence this is pretty much a first draft, or one particular take on how I might utilise the character in the future.  The ultimate aim is to use the character in some way on a background that I originally prepared with a view to mounting the fish carving on, although I decided that it didn’t look right and so now it’s going begging!

Anyway, I hope you like it and I think it’s fair to say that you will probably be seeing him again in the future, although not necessarily in this incarnation.  I’m very pleased with the way it turned out, particularly when you consider some of my previous attempts at painting!

I love this mischievous dinosaur! I’ve been searching for some inspiration as I try to embroider a dino onto a pillow case for my son’s upcoming 4th birthday. I think this guy is just perfect! Do you mind if I freehand copy his outline and basic shapes?

    Hi Nancy,

I think that sounds fab, I’d love to see some pictures when you’re finished. Maybe, if you don’t mind, we could post one or two up here :)

    Regards
